In the article, we are going to explain how to add websites, file and folder pathnames, programs and software to the Avast white list
Avast Exception List: Overview
Avast Exception List is basically a white list, a special feature of unblocking certain websites, software and files that the antivirus blocks automatically as hazardous ones. You may append to this list file and folder pathnames, websites, programs and software which are tried-and-true, and Avast won’t check them anymore.
How to apply Avast Exception feature
Further, we are going to explain how Avast Exception feature works with different files, apps and websites. All the guidelines differ a bit, so read carefully.
Adding files/folders
To append data files/folders to the exclusion list in Avast, you have to stick to the next guidelines:
- Start Avast on the device, and navigate to the Avast info panel.
- In the Main Menu, choose Settings. There would be the tab page called General, and right under it – the Exceptions section. Left-click it.
- After that, you have to enter the pathname of the file or folder and append it to Avast white list.
Thus, you can easily open certain files and folders on your device. The white list prevents the antivirus scanning.
Adding URLs
To add Internet sites to the exclusion list in Avast, you have to stick to the next guidelines:
- Start Avast on the device, and navigate to the Avast info panel.
- In the Main Menu, choose Settings. There would be the tab page called General, and right under it – the Exceptions section. Left-click it.
- You will see the sign saying Add exception. Left-click it, and a popup box will appear. Enter the website link you want to block down and add to Avast exclusion list.
- Left-click the Add exception button for saving the website.
- Go to the browser and enter the website link you tried to unblock. If the problem hasn’t been tackled, repeat the process again (operations 1-4), or try to re-start the device.
Adding programs/programming support
To append SW/programs to the Avast exclusion list for active protection, you have to stick to the next guidelines:
- Start Avast on the device, and navigate to the Avast info panel.
- In the Main Menu, go to the installation-specific settings. There will be the Core Shields section. It may be also called Active Protection. Left-click it.
- Choose a shield (net, game, file/folder, e-mail) and click on Add exception.
- Click on the Browse button and select pathnames of programs, folders or files, so that they are blocked down, added to the Avast white list, and discounted by the chosen shield.
- Adjust the time for the exceptions to be applied. If the problem hasn’t been tackled, repeat the process again (operations 1-4), or try to re-start the device.
Also, you may simply regulate core shields settings without browsing exclusions:
- Start Avast on the device.
- Navigate to Core Shields and left-click the Settings icon on the right.
- Disable (uncheck) their main functions.
It’s simple as that!
